Ozonator
Ozone use is quite common in hot tub application's. Ozone is a good oxidizer and will instantly kill bacteria in the area of application but it has such a short half-life (about 18 minutes) that it cannot be used alone as a sanitizer. It must be used in conjunction with chlorine or bromine. Some companies claim ozonators will reduce chemicals by 50 - 70 percent. What they are referring to is the NSPI recommended levels of Chlorine @ 2PPM -5PPM (could be dropped from 5PPM to 2PPM). This is could be true but a normally shocked hot tub once a week with 30g shock (Potassium Monopersulfate) could do the same thing.
There are two ways of making Ozone. One is with a UV light and the other is with a Corona Discharge ozonator.
The most important thing to realize is that even with the best ozone systems, customers must still use Bromine or Chlorine (within the recommended levels) and must maintain proper Ph levels, Alkalinity and Hardness levels. The ozone systems do not make the hot tub maintenance-free, but it does help with your water maintenance.
